Community Garden Grants and Funding


Request for a Grant from Jefferson County Master Gardeners Association (JCMGA)

Master Gardeners of Jefferson County, Alabama, are pleased to be able to offer two forms of small, horticultural partnerships to assist not-for-profit entities located in Jefferson County, Alabama.   Each grant application must be sponsored by a Jefferson County Master Gardener who is a member in good standing.  Award recipient projects will receive oversight and input from the association as fits our objective: to provide continuing horticultural education to Master Gardeners and to promote accepted horticultural practices and techniques to residents, schools, churches and other public institutions of the Jefferson County area. 

The association sponsors awards of 1) Community Garden Raised Bed Kits or 2) Monetary funding up to $2,000 to help underwrite specific gardening projects.

Grant applications will be accepted semi-annually on or before January 31st and September 31st. If approved, a summary of the grant request will be published for general membership review in the Association’s newsletter, Roots and Shoots, and will be presented at the first regular Association meeting following publication.


Eligibility

Jefferson County Master Gardener Grants are open to any not-for-profit organization located in Jefferson County, Alabama which seeks to serve residents of Jefferson County through some horticultural endeavor.   

 

Applicants must agree to the following conditions:

·      The Application is submitted in partnership a sponsoring Jefferson County Master Gardener and the JCMGA.  Locate an interested Master Gardner by contacting the Alabama Cooperative Extension Office on the second floor of the  at Birmingham Botanical Gardens Administrative building, 2612 Lane Park Rd., Birmingham AL  35223. ·      The Applicant agrees to the parameters and conditions of awards set by the Association, including site-specific stipulations, submission of receipts, and follow-up reporting

·      JCMGA reserves the right to purchase items directly and donate them to the Applicant

·      The Applicant will provide quarterly reports to JCMGA of expenses paid from the grant until fully accounted

·      The grant will not be used to pay any Administrative, Overhead or similar operating expenses

·      The grant will not be used to pay salaries, wages or related employee benefit expenses

·      The Applicant agrees to the publication of a summary of the grant request for general membership review in the Association’s newsletter, Roots and Shoots

·      The Applicant understands grant offers may altered or rescinded if significant objections are submitted by the first regular Association meeting following publication

 

Deadlines

Grant applications will be accepted semi-annually on or before January 31st and September 31st. Awards will be made at the convenience of the Association with all due expedience.
