M-POWER Community Garden

M-POWER Community Garden In early 2011 M-POWER Ministries broke ground on its Community Garden located alongside New Hope Baptist Church at 4022 4th Avenue South in Avondale. By October 2012 the garden reached full capacity of 35 beds comprising 4,736 square feet under cultivation.  About two thirds of the crops are vegetables which are donated to agencies helping those in need, including Birmingham Aids Outreach, Christian Service Mission, Magic City Harvest and M-POWER’s Health Center. The garden has year-around production of various Alabama favorites: beans, okra, tomatoes, squash, potatoes, onions, sugar snap peas, swiss chard, broccoli, kale and several other greens. The rest of the crops are flowers, principally zinnias and dahlias, which add beauty and interest, and can be sold to help cover garden costs. Volunteers are always welcome. Contact Don Ehrett or call M-POWER at 205 595-5959.
