Ten years ago my husband and I decided to remove all the grass from our backyard and create a wildlife habitat. The National Wildlife Federation had a program where you could have your yard certified as a Backyard Wildlife Habitat.  We now have that certificate and have gone on to get the certificate for a Bird-Friendly Habitat too. I have learned a lot by pursuing this endeavor and would like to share my knowledge with others so they too can enjoy and share their surroundings with wildlife.

While transforming our backyard I became interested in using plants that are native to our area. That led me to take the classes at the Birmingham Botanical Garden to earn my Certificate in Native Plant Studies. That in turn led me to take the Master Gardener classes. I wish I had known more about native plants when we first landscaped our yard. I would like to let other people know of the many wonderful options that are available to use native plants to enhance their surroundings and help our ecology at the same time. I am an active member of the Native Plant Group at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens and provide fact sheets for the plants that we offer at our Spring and Fall native plant sales.

Peggy is a popular, knowledgeable, and fun speaker.  She comes well-prepared and will answer any questions put to her.
